Soul-creating

Hello Rabbi,
For those who claim the existence of a soul, i.e., self-awareness separate from the body, when and how was it created during the development of life and man? Must a Creator God be involved here (i.e., intervention in the middle of the process other than the initial creation to create the laws)?
