Studying Torah “for its own sake”
Hello Rabbi Michael
I would appreciate your response.
I have come to the conclusion that the Torah study I am doing is not sufficient to fulfill the mitzvah of studying Torah for its own sake.
I only study issues in which I find intellectual interest or experience.
I don’t study tractates that I’m not interested in, and I skip pages that bore me.
Because I see the importance of the matter, I have tried in the past to establish a study schedule that also includes texts that don’t interest me. I have a hard time sticking to it.
Can I go out on the 18th day of Torah study “for its own sake” by reciting the Shema?
