The disaster in Meron
Hello Rabbi Michi.
I hear the words of the victims from Meron, some of whom lost children, and the mantra is always repeated that this is God’s will and decree, and some have gone so far as to say that these are signs of redemption and find reference in the Zohar…. To me, it is simply that there is no decree or sign here, but rather the result of organizational and safety negligence that stems, among other things, from the anti-ultra-Orthodox attitude of some Haredim towards the Ndina and the police.
What do you think?
thanks

The cause of the disaster was the slipping of those leaving the narrow and steep entrance, which was the only exit that the police allowed from the lighting area of the ‘Toldot Aharon’. The people who slipped and fell on the crowd in the area and a human avalanche was created.
People turned to the police forces and begged them to remove the unnecessary fence that created an unnecessary ‘bottleneck’ and they refused, ‘this bottleneck was apparently preventable..
A dense gathering of hundreds of thousands in Meron has existed for decades and no disaster has happened. The security forces are supposed to study the area and the expected event and act accordingly. If they know that crowds are flocking at midnight to the lighting of the ’R’Aharlach’ – they should be careful not to block the exit.
