The Merkavah according to the Rambam

Hello Rabbi, the Rabbi has claimed several times in his lessons that the Rambam understands in the Torah Foundations the story of Genesis and the chariot as physics and metaphysics. I have now carefully read the second chapter in which the Rambam explains the main points of the story of the chariot and it seems that he is actually talking about something else.
He understands the Merkava story as the knowledge of angels, seraphim, etc., meaning the levels above humans and closer to God. If this reminds me of any Torah, I would go with the teachings of Kabbalah.

Indeed. It should be remembered that Maimonides, like Aristotle, saw the angels and the wheels as part of his physics. But Maimonides was not familiar with Kabbalah and certainly was not inclined towards it.
