The Mitzvah of Preparation for Shabbat and Respect for Shabbat

שו”תCategory: HalachaThe Mitzvah of Preparation for Shabbat and Respect for Shabbat
asked 2 years ago

Hello, Your Honor. Rabbi Eliezer Melamed writes in his book, “Peninin Halacha: It is written (Exodus 16:5): “And it came to pass on the sixth day, that they should prepare that which they brought,” hence there is a mitzvah to prepare the needs of Shabbat on Friday.
Is this a commandment from the Torah or a reference from the Bible?
And is there a commandment to honor the Sabbath from the Torah or only from the words of the prophets (and you called the Sabbath a delight, holy to the Lord, honored)?

The obligation to prepare is part of the honor of Shabbat, and simply put, it is not a Torah law. Preparing a rabbi is indeed from the Torah, but I think that most poskim have not ruled on it in halakhic terms.
