The next mitzvah in transgression and something else
Hey Miki
Before I bring up the subject itself, I feel the need to share something fresh, fresh with you: Since the teeth in my mouth are ruined, I went to our dentist and he explained to me that he was prevented from treating my teeth except for temporary treatment due to the surgery. [I knew there was a problem – any infection in the jaw could spread to the heart!]
This morning, I’m sorry – I googled and found that the doctor who operated on me has a website with answers. I said to myself: “What could it be?” – I’ll ask today, he’ll answer when he’s free [if at all…], and I asked the question about dental care after the surgery. And here’s a surprise – within a few minutes he answered me – no problem!
Thus his desecration of Shabbat increased my Shabbat pleasure… I will punish you – the next mitzvah in transgression!
Now I want to share with you a very interesting story I experienced today:
Today we celebrated a birthday for one of my daughters in the Ilanot forest. After the feast, X [my eldest daughter], Y and I walked along the “forest” paths. As we wandered, Y told X how, among other things, the angels guide him and his wife to study a chapter from the Bible, based on a random selection. This week, the lot fell on 1 Kings, chapter 22, the event in which Ahab fell.
And the question is asked, what was the point of the angels summoning Y and his wife to this particular event? I tell you this because I don’t remember whether your book, The Sciences of Freedom, addresses this complex and delicate issue – to what extent man is sovereign and responsible for his words and actions. I have the impression that this is an extreme expression of the saying of Chazal: Everything is in the hands of Heaven – except for the fear of Heaven!
The funny thing is that X is a very rational person, but she accepts the matter of Y’s connection with the angels as fact.
Tomorrow or in the next few days I will send you another thought – and again regarding Reform Judaism.
So all the best to you and have a good week.
Hello A.
As you know, I don’t really understand things about angels. That’s why it’s hard for me to answer you why they did or didn’t do something. But if Y is knowledgeable, it’s likely that he inquired correctly.
So what do we do with the teeth in the end?
All the best.
Safra Taba Lekh Mikhi
The honor of the angels is in their place, but they are nothing more than “media agents” . The poignant question is indeed the degree of sovereignty of man over his words and actions. That is why I usually pray to God, and ask Him to guide me what to do. Because I am aware that although my intentions may be good and worthy, I may make wrong decisions - and not only in personal matters. That is why I have adopted the belief in private providence, without which I would be lost altogether!
Have a nice day
Personally, I do not adopt factual claims because they are useful, but only if I conclude that they are true.
