The personification of God

שו”תCategory: faithThe personification of God

Peace be upon you, Rabbi Michi!
Where did Jewish thinkers learn to attribute human qualities to God?
That he gets angry, irritated, vengeful, or vice versa.
Long-suffering, merciful, etc.
Does this have anything to do with his involvement in the world?

First of all, you don’t have to learn this. These are ways of describing how we perceive him, and naturally there is personification in this. Second, the Torah itself is the first to do this. That is, they learned from him himself.
