The relationship between Rambam and the Mishnah Torah
Hello Rabbi,
In the yeshiva world for the last 200-300 years, it is commonly believed that the Rambam was precise in his language, word for word. And his words are precise and demand a whole lot of legalese.
It is true that it can usually be seen that the wording, the order of the words, the location of the laws in the book, etc., indicate a prior intention.
But quite a few times, it seems that people get confused with his language or forcefully demand it, and that Maimonides “spoke like the language of humans.”
What are your impressions of this matter?
thanks,
He himself wrote that he was accurate. Especially compared to the other first writers who were quite clear that they were not accurate in their language but wrote in the language of humans without paying attention to every word. And yet there is a limit to the height of buildings that can reasonably be built with such accuracy. I have no clear criterion.
