The symbols

שו”תCategory: generalThe symbols
asked 5 years ago

Hello Rabbi
Did the rabbi, in the sciences of freedom, or in neuroscience in general, deal with symbols and their influence, conscious and subconscious?
What does the Rabbi say about the doctrine of symbols, which came strongly from Rabbi Hirsch, but is of course very ancient?

I don’t know about this. In general, symbols really put me off. I don’t tend to see anything as a symbol in vain. Symbols are something instrumental that I can replace with a more useful symbol. For example, if the tzitzit is a symbol that comes to remind us of the commandments (this is how the scripture is explained, and the sages taught that the blue sky is like the sea, and the sea is like the firmament, and the firmament is like the throne of glory), why wouldn’t I use a more effective symbol (like hanging the Book of Mitzvot on the flap of my clothes or around my neck).

So you think there's no such thing? And is this just preaching?

And by the way, the familiar argument that a better symbol is possible is argued against by many for reasons of commandments for their generations, isn't it?

I don't think that's why a Jew keeps the commandments. They may also be symbols of something.
Of course, it could be that in principle the commandments are not intended to achieve any goal other than obedience to the divine command (which the Maimonides strongly denies), and then one chooses a commandment that will be a symbol. But that doesn't seem likely to me, as the Maimonides wrote.

Clearly. Therefore, the reasons for the mitzvot given to the compiler of generations are also questionable and worthless in my opinion. Dealing with them is unnecessary (abrogation of the Torah in my opinion).

Thanks, also for the speed.
Bless you
