The world is a plate – flat and not round, is it possible?
According to Maimonides, this is the truth. He says that everything revolves around the Earth. And not the Earth.
And according to the Gemara it sounds different?

Is it possible? And if so, what is the Gemara's opinion on this?
Last time I answer. Please explain what the question is. Regarding the opinion of the Gemara, from several places it seems that it understood that the world is indeed flat.
Is it possible that the world is flat even though scientists claim it is round?
And this contradicts the words of the Zohar…
On the 4th of Nisan 87
In the article ‘The Sages Knew That the Earth Rotated Around the Sun’ (on the ‘Sod Torah’ website) the words of the Zohar (Part 3, 11) are quoted: In the Sifra Darrab Hamenuna Saba Frish Yatir, Daha Kol Yishuva Matgalgala Ka Kulu, Elin Elila Va Elin Lateta…’. See there in Oroch.
I remember Moshe Atidiya (who was the director of the Ayanot Agricultural School), in his book ‘Ashnev Le'olam’ (Tel-Aviv 1987) a satellite photograph from a certain angle in which all the continents appear to be located in the upper part of the Earth, in a sort of ‘plate’ Surrounded on all sides by ocean (which fits nicely with the researchers' hypothesis that in the past the continents were all connected to one continent).
In short: it depends on which angle you look from!

To Daniel.
The world is a real sphere, not flat.
God created everything with wisdom. The world is round like a sphere so that the normal force would be perpendicular to everything on the earth in the sphere we live on.
S.C.L
Do an experiment. Take a flat bowl and pour water on it. What is the curvature at the edges? The water is supposed to fall from the flat bowl, “similar” to the flat earth. The sea was supposed to “fall” from our flat earth
And there would be no half day, half darkness if we were flat.
The moonlight was supposed to look different.
By the way, what shape do you give the moon and the sun? If they are also flat, what is their width? Why don't you see the thickness of satellites when you take pictures from the side?
In short, don't be unreasonable - do yourself a favor.
S.C. Levinger, thank you for your response, which is rich in information as always 🙂
Moshe, I'm afraid you're wrong. The fact that God created everything with wisdom does not require it to be a sphere. I can phrase your sentence like this: “God created everything with wisdom so that the world is flat so that…”
The normal and perpendicular forces come after you established that the world is spherical and that there is a gravitational force. I argue that there is no gravity and a normal force, but this is not the place to elaborate on the subject.
Regarding the second half of your response. You have a complete picture and laws that you have taken for granted, so you need to draw a completely new picture.
The world is flat and round.. The sun revolves around the earth, and so do the other stars and the moon.
Around the water there is a huge layer of ice that is covered by Antarctica. At a height of 10 meters.
Which prevent (like a dam) water from passing through them.. and therefore nothing spills from the surface to the sides.
Half day and half night, do you mean the evenings?
The moonlight was supposed to look different? Why?
There are no satellites… and there is no International Space Station. In Hollywood movies, maybe there is…
They flew a balloon with a GoPro camera over the Earth and there are no satellites around the Earth.
First of all, if we were flat, then Antarctica would surely melt at 10 meters.
I want you to take a GoPro camera and take a picture of the abyss from the tip of the iceberg.
You really live in a movie.
I didn't understand why it was always either flat or spherical.
And after all, anyone with a little bit of intelligence knows that the world is shaped like a Möbius ring (and if I were a demosthene, I would have a Klein bottle), and I'll admit it.
It all depends on the eye of the beholder.
Yishai In my humble opinion there is documentation of the shape of the earth. And it is round but the question is whether it is spherical or flat.
The fact that it is round is indisputable. The secret of the letter S’
A high-altitude balloon photo also proves that the world is flat.

The opinion of the sages in the Talmud is that the Earth is flat.
The opinion of the taxi driver who drove me the other day that the sun and the moon are the same size
In the book of Genesis, the 1st century BC
Prof. Nathan Aviezer (in his book Genesis) insists that the apparent diameter of the two great lights, as seen from Earth, is the same. Although the Sun is much larger than the Moon, they appear to the observer from Earth to be the same size, because the Moon is closer.
Due to the difference in their actual size, there is a distinction between the great light and the small light, but due to the equality of diameter, as seen from Earth, the two great lights are equal.
Best regards, Arfasz
That's it. To the unconscious observer, the earth also appears flat.
Was this discussion serious? It is clear that the Earth is round!
Regarding what the sages said, the words of the Maimonides are well known, that the scientific statements of the sages were written according to the science of their time, so there is no question here and it is clear that they are following the science of our time.
On the 1st of September 2017,
Thirty-first, Good afternoon,
In this case, the science that existed at the time of Chazal knew that the Earth was round, and the evidence for this is that a person looking at a ship sailing at sea sees it sinking.
I am not aware of any place where Chazal says that the Earth is flat. On the contrary, in the Zohar it is about an “area rolling like a sphere.”
What has been new is that even in the lower part of the sphere, which was thought to be entirely an “ocean” surrounding the land (the block of Asia, Europe, Africa) there is land “within the ocean.” The Sages did not discover America, and left room for Columbus to do so 🙂
The implication of the perception that everything east of the ’land’ is sea, resulted in the establishment of the ‘date line’ at a distance of ninety degrees east of Jerusalem, according to the opinion of Rez”.
Greetings, Arfasz”tz
It doesn't matter whether the sages knew this or not. They may or may not have known.

In the text of the book of the Ten Commandments, the author Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the Book of the Ten Commandments, the author of the (And as the sages sang: “My heart is in the east and I am at the end of the west.”)
So when the sages say that the height of Adhar was “as the distance between east and west,” their simple meaning is: “as the distance between eastern China and the western Iberian Peninsula.”
In any case, the sages in their legends do not come to teach biology, but to say metaphorically that Adam the First was a general personality connecting from heaven to earth or from the farthest east to the farthest west, that all the different people throughout the world were included in the personality of Adam the First, which is the root of all.
Greetings, Arphaxatz
Maharel says that all humans were created with the seal of the first Adam, and what is the seal of Adhar that was unique, and in this all humans are similar to each other, that each has their own unique personality, and no one is 100 percent similar to their fellow man.
I don't understand what the need is to try to reconcile the words of Chazal with science. Chazal were wrong about science because they followed the scientists of that time. The Gemara did not come down from heaven, so there is no question here, and all the scientific words in the Gemara were written by people (holy and sublime, of course) who were scientifically wrong.
They tell you that specifically on this subject, the convention that the ancients thought the Earth was flat is questionable. It's not the least bit likely that even if they thought that way, it wouldn't hurt anything. But it's still interesting to know.
Every opinion has a reference here and there.
In my opinion, in the end, everyone hears what they want to hear according to their personality structure, and according to what interests them.
And maybe this is part of the ability to choose that was given to us?
You never know
Ras”G in his commentary on the Book of Creation writes that the Sages thought the world was flat and that this was not true.
Even if the Sages did not actually think the world was flat, they did not know the structure of the solar system because they claim that the sun heats the springs at night.
The Zohar, as is known, was not written during the time of the Sages, and the only innovation in it is that he came up with the idea that the changes of day and night are a result of the rotation of the earth around itself.
Of course, Maimonides knew that the world was round, he just did not know that the sun does not rotate around it. For some reason, the questioner mixed up the topics.
Stop with the nonsense. Nothing has disappeared, not from the sages. We are too young to understand the secret of the Genesis story. Everything the sages write is all under the guise of understanding nothing. They knew very well how the world works and how it looks. And what they disagree about is about very deep things that even a billion scientists will never understand.
Everything was known to the sages of the Mishnah and the Gemara, everything was handed down from generation to generation.
Yes, it is known.
The question that bothers me is just why they wrote things that no one can understand. And maybe beyond that, why they didn't use their ultimate knowledge to cure all diseases and create an atomic bomb against the evil Greeks and Romans. Maybe they actually did create it, but under cover. We just didn't notice.

There is no Creator of the world
The world is not a sphere, but a flat one, and above us is a dome. There are many contradictions in the alleged scientific theories that explain the round world and everything is a big, staged show by NASA. There are no satellites outside the dome. The stars do not change, but remain in their place. If we were to revolve around the sun, our planets would also change, including the North Star. Objects can be seen on the horizon. If the world is round, we cannot see beyond the curve. If we have crazy technology and groundbreaking research that shows us stars millions of light years away, why don't we fly to the nearest star to us, to the moon? If we were there, why aren't there millions of astronauts going out and exploring? And there are many more questions hanging over our heads. I tend to believe Hazal's words as they are. They knew more than us, no doubt.
Indeed, there is no doubt. I am even surprised that you bother to present this overwhelming evidence. And could it have been otherwise?
If the Earth was flat then how is there lava coming out of the Earth and how are there deep oceans or are they dug full of earth and not falling into space
Someone answer this
According to the flat earth, the earth on pillars, in fact there is no space, or reference in the Torah, I have not researched enough, regarding all the data of the depth below the surface, we only know from science, the question is who to believe God and our Torah or science, which is a collection of opinions of scientists, people of flesh and blood, from a material world, according to the words of the creation of the world in the Torah, which is the most famous book in the entire world, without the purpose of material and money, and there is reference in quite a few accepted verses and commentators, the shape of the earth is round but flat, all our lives we have learned different things, and therefore we must decide whether to believe the scientists or our Torah
The words of the author of ”Havat Yair” regarding the shape of the world.. The end of his words, after he investigated and demanded, I will attach a link for anyone who wishes to read some of his confusions until he has resolved this matter.
These are the ends of my confusions, a little more than much, therefore do not add any more to my sight in investigations and demands in this wisdom, because it was with me and most of them were difficult and few were achieved. I sent it to my soul, and you also did so, and turned and walked towards my body of Torah, turning it upside down and turning it upside down, and your line did not sweat, and Shmuel Yerichinai, who was a Nahrin to him, the paths of the sky, etc., said that he could correct me for a exile, he would not turn his heart only to the platform where he went to his needs, like a Jerusalemite.
And you are peace and your house is peace, as your precious soul is, and the soul of your beloved, who is troubled, is answered.
