Hello Rabbi, on the issue of not having a teacher of halakha before one’s rabbi, one asks about the reason why it is forbidden to teach halakha as long as one’s rabbi is alive or in his environment, and the Tosafot and the Kesef Mishnah answer that the reason is that there is no divine assistance in the student’s ruling as long as one’s rabbi is alive. This issue raised the question for me, is there really a matter of divine assistance in ruling on halakha and studying Torah? Or is it a matter of superstition and nothing more. I am also often told that it is always better to learn from our rabbis on every subject and not from philosophers or gentiles, R”t, since many of us had divine assistance. I don’t know. I tend to think that the ruling of halakhah is independent. Perhaps we can interpret siya’ta d’shmia as expertise and the development of halakhic sensitivity because of the abundance of work on this subject. And according to this, when his rabbi is alive, perhaps the student does not exercise his best judgment because he trusts his rabbi to correct when necessary.
