Timing of offenses

שו”תCategory: HalachaTiming of offenses
asked 1 year ago

I have been fighting against the evil of the gods for a long time, both the defect of the covenant and the promiscuity….each time trying to stop without success.
In the last six months, I have discovered that when I determine in advance when my downfalls will occur, I manage to overcome them in between, both in action and in reflection.
Is it permissible to “set times” for offenses or do we have to fight all the time even if it means I end up committing more offenses in the end?

I think so. If that’s what’s helpful.

Blessed are you who fight your urge!
Rabbi Michi's response is in line with the words of Toss Hagiga 16. They interpreted the article "He will wrap himself in black and go to a place where he is not known and do whatever his heart desires" literally, meaning that it is better to time an offense wisely in order to reduce its severity.

This is not exactly appropriate. First, the Riff and the Raash in Mok 16 wrote that there is no halacha like Rabbi Ilai, that everything is in the hands of Heaven except for the fear of Heaven. Neither did the Rambam and Shulchan Arbiter bring his words. Although in the Torah, it is implied that the halacha was thus.
For the law, it is impossible to instruct the halacha in this way, since a poskim cannot instruct a person to commit offenses. And Rabbi Ilai apparently did not establish a halacha here, but rather some recommendation to the person himself. And in this too, most poskim do not instruct in this way.
Of course, one can answer a theoretical halachic question about the severity of any such prohibition, and that is what I answered.
