To study or work

שו”תCategory: moralTo study or work
asked 2 years ago

Hello Rabbi,
As a continuation of the last column and its predecessors…
I study at a kollel and I’m interested in the rabbi’s opinion on whether it’s appropriate for me to work, or whether the lack of morality is in the educational system, not teaching a profession, educating about the virtue of the ‘kollel for idlers,’ and spending public funds that encourage study when that’s not the will of the people, but as a private individual, is it appropriate for me to study if I’m interested in knowing the Torah?
Another question – if I do study, is it appropriate not to accept ‘religions’? And what about money that the kollel receives from donors? Is it appropriate not to take that either? Especially since a large portion of the money comes from a person who wants to be studied in his building.

There is no immorality in studying. If you study seriously, are talented and suitable for it, you can also take religions. There is no problem with donations.
