Two questions

שו”תTwo questions
asked 1 year ago
  1. How do I know if my faith is based on reason? I grew up in a religious home. I consider myself very rational, I have read the writings of the rabbi and others, and I am pretty convinced that being religious is the rational thing to do. But I don’t know if I came to this conclusion through reason, or if due to all sorts of psychological pressures I accept this position even though it is really less reasonable. I suppose there is no question to this answer other than trying to observe myself, but this question really bothers me so I still wanted to know what you think (I know the rabbi repented, in such a situation the question really doesn’t exist. But I don’t really feel like repeating the question to see if I repent again..).
  2. Is there a need for emotion? That is, should a person develop his emotional capacity? Or, alternatively, should he suppress it.

Thank you very much.

1. Indeed, it is impossible to answer this. Even the answer I give you will be able to wonder whether it is true or stems from internal structures. This is an unnecessary and worthless pursuit. By the way, I did not repent in the conventional sense. I always wore a kippah on my head. 2. Neither develop nor suppress (I also don’t really understand what it means to develop the emotion). The emotion is a fact and you have to live with it.
