War of command or permission

Hello Rabbi

I wanted to ask whether the halakhic definition of war in the current situation is a war of command or authority? The question is directed at the situation with Iran and its arms such as Hamas, Houthis, Hezbollah, etc. Is war in the cyber arenas, the economy, terrorist attacks abroad, sending missiles, etc. defined as a war of command. After all, it says in the Rambam, “Helping Israel from a time of *come upon them*.” Is this also defined in the type of fighting in recent months as “come upon them”? Or should we say that October 7 and a month later it was a war of command and then we chose to go to a war of authority? After all, we could have chosen diplomatic means, but if we chose war (and probably rightly so) then it is not necessarily a war of command because there is now no time of come upon them?

See the halachic ruling regarding the recruitment of Haredim (column 649). There I explained this and also the Maimonides’ method regarding “helping Israel from a difficult time.”
