‘Welcoming his master’ on Hol HaMoed with his esteemed
Ready for joy,
As is known, it is customary among all of Israel to gather for the mitzvah of “welcoming one’s rabbi” on Chol HaMoed, each individual with his rabbi, each community with its leader.
What will someone do who perceives you as their rabbi? Where and how can one fulfill the commandment of welcoming the rabbi?
Maybe it would be worth organizing some kind of conference to fulfill the mitzvah?
A little bit of history…
It's also possible in Zoom classes 🙂
Do we go out of our way to greet the rabbi on Zoom?
Since there is no obligation, there is no room for discussion.
Why is it not mandatory?
The Novyi wrote that when there is no pilgrimage, there is no acceptance of the rabbi. And the Rambam, who understands that it is because of the honor of the rabbi, says that there is no rabbi who is clear and who learns from books, there is no obligation (and so is the case with DeSteifler). It is surprising that today they do not adhere to this. Especially since originally it was every month and Sabbath, and this is certainly not done today. And in general, from the tone of the Gemara, it seems that even from the Gemara's perspective, it is not a real halachic obligation.
