What happened to Jewish thought?
I wanted to ask how it is possible that in the past there were Jewish philosophers (Rambam, Rabbi Hasdai Karshakash, Rabbi Yosef Albo, and others) who grew out of the Beit Midrash and were considered part of the conservative religious “mainstream,” while today this is almost nonexistent.

I assume that fear caused a move away from thought and philosophy and towards “view” (among the Haredi) and “faith” (among the Da’alim). As a friend of mine once said: Instead of thinking, we learn thought.
