Who to vote for in Jerusalem

שו”תCategory: HalachaWho to vote for in Jerusalem
asked 2 years ago

As we stand before the elections for the council | (all the advertising has already been posted, etc.) I wanted to know the opinion of the Rabbinical Committee, which party should I vote for?
2. And is there any obligation to vote for a party that upholds our religion? If we don’t vote at all and we had the power to strengthen religion in the country and didn’t go to vote, is there a prohibition/offense in it?

I have no idea who is on the agenda. As a general rule, at least in the country, one should be careful not to vote for a religious party. In local elections, it depends on the place and the type of issues. There are no commandments or transgressions here.

Why not vote for a religious party? What's wrong with it?

מיכי Staff replied 2 years ago

Mainly blasphemy, but also on the merits, these parties are mostly harmful.

Aren't you worried that you have a religious affiliation with all the Holonites, Sabbath desecrators, etc.?

שמערל replied 2 years ago

And what do you mean by blasphemy?

מיכי Staff replied 2 years ago

If I were afraid, I wouldn't have written what I wrote. The blasphemy is corruption, racism, primitiveness, and evasion. An overwhelming combination of all the religious parties, down to the last one.

And religious coercion.

Does the rabbi mean any party whose people are religious or whose definition is religious? Because I know of parties in certain cities of religious (national) people who really care about the good of the city and who are not corrupt (unlike the mayor, who in my opinion is the corrupt one), so what's the problem with voting for such a party?

מיכי Staff replied 2 years ago

It's clear that the reference is only to religious parties. And I wrote that it was only in the national elections.
