Will this be the fast I choose?

שו”תCategory: HalachaWill this be the fast I choose?

Our actions then caused a lot of unnecessary hatred that brought destruction and exile. Every year we fast and remember, and thus we avoid doing it again.
Let’s say I came to the conclusion that the fasts of our time are full of gratuitous hatred and are actually bringing about a process of decay and destruction upon our people.
Let’s assume that I also came to the conclusion that it is precisely those who do not fast who are less guilty of all of the above.

Is it appropriate to eat and drink today?

What is the connection between the two? Why does what the fasting people do matter to the purpose of the fast? And where did your wild generalization about the fast come from? If you wanted to demonstrate to us what gratuitous hatred is, then you certainly succeeded.

He probably spoke for the majority
and it seems that there may be more than a grain of truth in his words…
