Witnesses at the wedding
Hello Rabbi,
Are there marriages that can be performed without witnesses? I guess I want to say yes, but I’ve always heard that two witnesses are needed for the marriage to be valid.
What is the point of this opinion? There is no sanctification without witnesses, because they not only constitute evidence of the act but also part of the fulfillment of the thing.
I am of course talking about a wedding, not a marriage.
I understand. So, in the case where both witnesses have died, do I need to perform Kiddushim again? If not, I can't understand the matter of witnesses.
People can get married with witnesses and two years later the witnesses die and it will still be considered Kiddushim?! The main thing with witnesses is that they will testify to an act, and if they are dead then they don't have this ability and anyway I don't see why it is important for them to perform Kiddushim.
I explained that kiddushin witnesses do not function as evidence of the act.
I must comment that it is strange and not serious in my opinion to formulate an explanatory position on the subject without knowing it at all.
