The issue of the Sabbath act

שו"תקטגוריה: HalachaThe issue of the Sabbath act
שאל לפני 2 שנים

I am writing about the issue of Shabbat (the topic is Shabbat in the modern era), and my main argument is that it is permissible to watch a football game broadcast on Shabbat as early as Saturday night without waiting for it to be done, because unlike a classic Shabbat act, in this case the prohibition will be carried out either way, and therefore all the reasons given for it to be done do not apply. What do you think? Is there a reason to ban it because of the categorical order? Thank you very much.

An explanation is certainly possible. Although the question of whether decrees are discussed in light of their reasons requires further elaboration. Regarding the categorical imperative, I doubt it belongs here, because a simplistic application of it means that a thief cannot be punished, since the general law is that no one steals, and so on. If you assume that there are Sabbath desecrators even in the utopian situation where the general law guides everyone, then there is no problem defining a general law that if a game is broadcast in a way that there are no reasons to prohibit it, it can be watched.
