A. In the seventh book, the Maharal writes that everyone should be allowed to express their opinion, otherwise there will be no clarification of religion. A really beautiful passage that you also quote on the website.
But at the end of the sixth book, the Maharal sharply criticizes the book Meor Einyaim by Rabbi Azaria of the Reds and writes that it is forbidden to read and distribute his books:
For this man uttered words against the supreme saints, and did not understand the plainness of their words, as he did in some of its chapters. Therefore, this book is among the external books, which are forbidden to be read . And every man who has the religion of the Torah of Moses, and believes in the written Torah and the oral Torah, let this book be a book that he will not see or find, and he will not look at it or look at it, neither intellectual sight, nor sensory sight.

How do you explain this contradiction?

on. In the seventh book, when the Maharal speaks about those who oppose religion, he divides them into four types (in short – a religious fanatic, a missionary, a fanatic of another religion, a malicious king), and none of them is intellectual opposition and disagreement with religion. Is it because he does not recognize such a reality or because he does not consider it “opposition” or for some other reason?

A. I don’t know. But I understand from your description that he thinks that book is nothing more than a lack of understanding and not just other positions. Therefore, in my understanding, there is no contradiction.
B. I don’t know. He may not have been familiar with the phenomenon, as it is truly new (at least as a phenomenon). Until today, the assumption has always been that heresy is the result of the evil inclination to appease or anger. Or at most, a baby that has been captured.
