Hello,

I came across your name in one of the reader responses to “Need a Review.”
Reading your writings led me to review your article 22 about emotion.
1. It is not clear to me how you define or differentiate between the concepts of “value” and “principle.”
2. It’s not clear to me how much you’ve researched the way emotions develop in humans and their integration into creative and automatic (explosive) thinking.
In my understanding, the amygdala is not the exclusive and/or only place that activates emotions.
3. In my understanding as an experienced person, the advice you gave about the relationship between thinking and feeling regarding finding a relationship was not comprehensive enough and could mislead someone who uses it.

In my opinion, it is possible to fulfill the commandments and love through deep feelings.
I agree with you that there is “idolatry” in the public, and in my opinion, there are too many, too many who are blind and wrong.

Wishing you all the best, strength and health,

1. I didn’t understand the question. Maybe I don’t remember anymore (this was written years ago), but where did I distinguish between a value and a principle? 2. I have not researched and I do not think there is any need to research. It also does not matter whether it is in the amygdala or elsewhere. My distinction is conceptual, not physiological. Things that are not under a person’s control have no value. What is under his control can have value. 3. In a conversation I have with a student, I don’t settle for one word or one sentence. But it’s always possible that I was wrong and I’d love to understand where and why. All the best,

Hello and many thanks for your reply,

On the “beginning”
As I understand it, you answered on the site, for those seeking instruction, and I asked to understand the source of the opinion.
But if it is difficult in an email, I will give up.

1. In the discussion you wrote in publication No. 22, you discussed ”emotions” and ”reason” and ”value”.
I did not see a discussion of the concept “principle” next to value. In order to understand your approach to defining the concepts, I asked.

2. Because you mentioned the organ as the source of sensations. Doesn't all thought and perception, like emotion, exist on a somatic physiological basis?
What do you think about seeing the origin of value as arising from choice?

3. In my opinion, in order to achieve the best possible results, it is better not to separate the action from the emotion but to learn to recognize it as it is.
In my opinion, it is not better to ignore the emotion or belittle it but to connect with it, consider it, befriend it and manage it according to principles chosen in advance.
In my opinion, the physical and emotional elements are of the highest importance, as long as they serve us and the environment according to chosen principles and values.
(Written at the beginning, ”And you loved… with all your heart” and then “and with all your soul”) The Passover sacrifice and the matzos made according to their instructions, eat, chew and swallow.

With many blessings,

It's not difficult in an email, it's just that in the end everything goes there (without the identity of the questioner, of course) and that's annoying.
The answer is intended for any question. Pock Hezi, the vast majority of which are not questions of halakhic teaching or instructions in general.

1. The concepts seem understandable to me. If you have any questions, – ask. I understand that the concept of ‘principle’ was not mentioned there.

2. The mention of the element is for the glory of the recommendation. It has no importance to the argument. The difference for me is in the question of what is created by man (by decision) and what is created spontaneously. The value is indeed the result of a choice. In fact, the main thing about choice is in your values. I expanded on this in my book ‘Sciences of Freedom’.

3. This is not a question of expediency. This is a question of fact.
