Torah from heaven

שו”תCategory: faithTorah from heaven
asked 4 years ago

Hello,
I read the trilogy and learn that the rabbi makes a clear distinction between a verse/obligation from the Torah that we are obligated to even without full understanding, and the laws/authority of the sages that must be understood and accepted if it is correct.
My question is – what does the rabbi think about the writing of the Torah? Was it all given to Moses from heaven as it is? Or was it written retrospectively after many years (as the research suggests)?
If it was written years later, how can we distinguish between a verse spoken by the hero and guest writing/commentary by the editor/writer?

Thank you very much.

Where did you learn that? As far as I remember, I didn’t make the distinction you did anywhere. I distinguished between substantive and formal authority, but this is not a distinction between Toshab”ka and Toshab”pa. In the book I also expressed my opinion regarding the authenticity of the Torah, but it does not directly concern the question of authority.

Does it really matter whether Moses wrote the entire Torah in prophecy or he wrote only part and Hezekiah and Ezra added to it in prophecy?
So while the Torah is portrayed as being entirely given to Moses in prophecy, in my opinion it doesn't really matter if certain parts were also given in prophecy to someone else. They have the same sacred status.
