Q&A: Married at First Sight
Married at First Sight
Question
Is it forbidden as malicious speech to analyze (or maybe gossip about) people/couples who participate in Married at First Sight (or any other well-known television show)?
Thank you very much
Answer
I don’t think there is any prohibition here if they are doing it in full view of all Israel.
Discussion on Answer
It goes beyond the fact that they forgave or waived it. This is known and done before millions, so I do not see the slightest trace of any prohibition in relation to it. That does not mean it is proper to talk about it, but in my opinion there is no prohibition.
I didn’t understand the last question. Analyze whatever you want.
The question is whether I am allowed to analyze it professionally in terms of body language or whatever it may be, and publish it on my YouTube channel?
That is a question of therapeutic ethics, not of Jewish law.
Does the Rabbi mean because they are not particular about this? And if so, what about a case where the person “let himself go” in a bad way—had an outburst and the like—in a way that it is clear that when he joined the program he did not anticipate that he would “humiliate” himself like that? Is it then forbidden to talk about it (because his consent was only conditional), or does the very fact that the event was publicized remove it from the category of malicious speech?
And if we say that the very publication of the event removes it from the category of malicious speech, is it permitted to analyze and interpret the event from a unique perspective (for example, a psychiatrist making some professional diagnosis)?
Sorry for being such a nuisance.
Thank you very much!!
