Q&A: What Does the Rabbi Mean?
What Does the Rabbi Mean?
Question
Hello Rabbi,
The Rabbi wrote: “And this is the beginning, in gratitude to the Blessed God that my strength has not weakened (700) up to this time.” I have to admit that I still haven’t understood the Rabbi’s view regarding God’s intervention. On the one hand, the Rabbi argues that the Holy One, blessed be He, does not intervene in the world, and on the other hand, he thanks Him for giving him strength, etc. Is this just lip service and the Rabbi doesn’t really mean it, or…?
Answer
I wrote it ironically, although I have written more than once that there is no reason not to thank the Holy One, blessed be He, for creation and for its laws, which allow us to function. You don’t need specific intervention in order to thank Him.
