Q&A: delayed choice quantum eraser
delayed choice quantum eraser
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Have you happened to hear about the delayed choice quantum eraser experiment?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed-choice_quantum_eraser
Broadly speaking, this is an experiment that examines the possibility of “erasing” information about the particle’s path after it has already hit the screen, and yet this still affects whether or not an interference pattern is obtained.
The main problem raised by the experiment is:
How can it be that the decision, made later in time, whether to preserve or erase the information affects what happened in the past—that is, whether the particle created an interference pattern or not?
Best regards,
Answer
I’m not familiar with it, and it’s hard for me to get into it. From past experience, these claims are usually hasty and open to interpretation, especially when they’re applied to philosophical concepts. a0
In my opinion there are videos on YouTube that explain the issue.
The particle may already have hit the screen, but the information itself isn’t accessible (it gets swallowed up in the noise) until you measure it in the present.
