Does man live for the mitzvot or are the mitzvot for man to live?

Two commandments indicate this:
1. "He made one Sabbath sacred for him so that he might keep many Sabbaths."
2. "And you shall keep my statutes and my judgments, which if a man does, he shall live in them, and not die in them."
And a very difficult question immediately arises: After all, the two commandments contradict each other. In the first, life is an instrument for the commandments, and in the second, the commandments are an instrument for life.
