Free choice and evolution

Hi,
I read your book "The Science of Freedom" and really enjoyed it. Thank you very much.
I have 2 questions.
First of all, do you think animals have free choice?
If not, the question arises:
At what stage of human evolution from ape did free choice arise? Did choice suddenly arise at some point in the middle? The father does not have it and suddenly an offspring is born with a mutation of free choice? How did the ability arise? (And the same question about the soul).
