Studies

שו"תStudies
שאל לפני 3 שנים

Hello Rabbi,
I have a question that has been bothering me for a while, and it is how can one formulate a position in the age of research, and how can one exchange opinions like that?
I happened to notice many conversations between people I study with, and each one, in order to strengthen their position, used "there are studies that show…". How am I, as an individual, supposed to formulate a position on who is right? And what is right? After all, every apparent position has studies and their opposites, and I also don't think it makes sense to read each study individually.
I would be happy for an answer.

There are times when common sense can help you form a critical stance. In other situations, don't form a stance. You don't have to form a stance. On the other hand, there's no need to be impressed by every statement about research. In many cases, it's a mistake.
