Where is Israel?
I have always argued that "the Zionist idea does not seem particularly brilliant or safe for Jews" and "there does not seem to be a bright future for the Jewish state."
Of course. I argued, I was irritated, I was pitied, by those around me, but I really thought so beyond the pleasure of the provocation.
Of course, given the country, I support it and love it – and I feel sorry for it –
Everyone seems certain that we will soon collapse Hamas and peace will come upon us. It is not at all clear that we will succeed, but even if we collapse Hamas, its ideology lives on in the hearts of the Gazans.
Will we replace Hamas with the PA? A: Who said the PA would last two weeks? B: Let's not forget Jenin (maybe this is part of A) C: What or who will be the day after Mansour Abbas? An upgraded Yassin will easily come to power. They talk about nurturing a monster and all hell breaking loose? The PA could turn out to be a much more massive monster in a few decades or less. The Gazans of today are not the Gazans of 20 years ago, and they are certainly not the ones of 50 years ago. Such a change in character can certainly happen to the Arabs of Judea and Samaria (in-depth articles written about Palestinian youth, and other indications, I will predict that a change for the worse is indeed already happening). The separation fence in Judea and Samaria (which sometimes has buildings from both "peoples" on both sides) cannot be secured like the fence in Gaza, which is also… oh well.
I perhaps have a glimmer of hope regarding his coexistence with Israeli Arabs, many of whom, perhaps most of whom, consistently present themselves as anti-Israeli Palestinians when foreign reporters come to interview them.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg… There are tanks in the form of Iran, Hezbollah, etc.
It can be argued that we are not safe in the world either, given the Holocaust of European Jewry and the pogroms against Arab Jews, etc. But, and I apologize for ignoring assumptions about spiritual motives for persecuting Jews as an eternal necessity, in the US it does not seem that way. The hatred directed towards us today is mainly in the Arab and Muslim world under the pretext of Zionism and the "occupation." And in general, without getting into pluralistic apologetics, it seems that Muslims pretty much live by their sword, so it is no wonder.
I guess you will agree with me about our lack of spiritual uniqueness in the matter of hatred – partly because of your attitude towards the virtue of Israel – (I am aware that this is a different topic, but the rationale feels somewhat the same to me)
There is no concrete question here because we are already here and would be happy to stay even if the clock runs out (maybe to "defend" abroad?). But anyway, what is your opinion on the matter?
Thank you very much.
