Prayer for the restoration of the work of sacrifices

שו"תPrayer for the restoration of the work of sacrifices
שאל לפני 2 שנים

Hello Rabbi,
Like quite a few people, I find myself mumbling prayers without taking the time to understand their meaning. Recently, I read a little and thought about the work of sacrifices and realized that I have no desire or aspiration for them to return. Can I, like the well-known Midrash, which says that Jeremiah and Daniel changed the text of the prayer prescribed by Moses out of knowing that God is true and therefore did not deceive Him, make a decree for myself? From a slightly different perspective, according to Maimonides' interpretation in the Moreh, the sacrifices are only in retrospect and not from the beginning. Perhaps today we have reached a higher level where we do not need the sacrifices (unlike the first generations) and therefore I am lying to myself when I pray about the sacrifices. In such a situation, is it possible to skip these sections in the prayer?

If you don't expect this, then there's really no point in saying these things. But keep in mind that in the current situation you can't estimate what the impact of the temple will be on our lives. It's certainly possible that when it's built and you experience things for yourself, you'll realize that it has a very great contribution to the religious and spiritual world, that you can't judge in your current situation that it's foreign and completely different from the situation with a temple. I feel the same way you do, as of today. But at the same time, I tell myself over and over again what I wrote here. As for the reasons for Maimonides' commandments in the lesson, it convinces me even less than the necessity of the Temple. I wouldn't rely on it for anything.
