A Question on Bava Batra 87
Question
In honor of my teacher and rabbi, the great rabbi, may he live a good and long life, greetings and all the best.
Bava Batra 87: on the words “the Rabbis follow their reasoning,” etc., and Rabbi Yehudah follows his reasoning, that one may send “wine,” oil, and a flask in the hand of his son, etc. But this requires clarification: who mentioned wine at all?
The signer, with respect.
Answer
It seems to me that this is because of that dispute in the previous Mishnah (on 86a). See also the commentary of Rabbi Ovadiah of Bertinoro here. I have not looked into it carefully here.
