Q&A: The Mechanism of How Intuition Works
The Mechanism of How Intuition Works
Question
Hello Rabbi Michi,
You argue (if I understood you correctly…) that the more a person studies and engages in a certain field, the more his capacity for intuition grows—a kind of “gut feeling” that guides a person to the correct insight.
Do you have a theory for how the acquisition of intuition takes place in the psyche? (Just an example that occurred to me: the more one repeats lines of thought with certain logical components, the more the mind gets used to working that way, and when a person encounters a certain idea that doesn’t fit that mindset, he feels that “this doesn’t fit.”)
Thank you very much.
Answer
Yes. It’s like learning computerized systems. Trial and error builds the system so that it gives correct answers and interprets correctly. These are processes that are very well known in computer science and neuroscience.
