Q&A: Circumcision from a Moral Perspective
Circumcision from a Moral Perspective
Question
Is it even moral to permanently remove part of a child's body??
Answer
Why not? His Creator and ours commanded that this be done. You could also ask whether it is moral to raise a child according to what you think, maybe he will think differently?
Discussion on Answer
It's not true that things can always be changed. There are very many things you get from home that can't be changed. And with circumcision I don't see what there is to change. It hurt him for a second, and that's it. What does he care about it when he's grown up? These are just empty nitpicks.
And even if the father thinks it's aesthetic, there is no principled objection to doing it.
By the same token, is it moral to permanently remove part of a girl's body?
I didn't understand this 'question.' Are you asking whether what I said applies only to male children? Why not ask whether it also applies to babies taller than 42 cm?
As for raising a child, that's different, because opinions can always be changed, which is not the case with circumcision. And suppose it isn't for a religious reason, but because the father thinks it's more aesthetic?
