Q&A: Compensation for an Accident in a Store
Compensation for an Accident in a Store
Question
Yesterday, in a well-known pharmacy chain, a bottle of fabric softener fell on my foot, causing bleeding and pain, and as a result I had to take several sick days because it hurts to step on the foot, even though there is no fracture.
An employee dropped the bottle on me while talking on the phone; it is clear to me that it happened by mistake.
Should I approach the chain for compensation for the distress and loss, plus the days I missed at work?
I don’t want to cause harm to the employee and, Heaven forbid, cause her to be fired, but it is also clear to me that they have insurance.
Is it moral to approach them and let them compensate me without threatening a lawsuit?
Answer
I don’t have an answer. It is your right, but it is clear that significant harm could be caused to her. It depends on how important this is to you and how much you are willing to lose in order not to harm her.
