Q&A: Religious Zionist Thinking Regarding Their Conception of the State of Israel
Religious Zionist Thinking Regarding Their Conception of the State of Israel
Question
I listened to the Rabbi’s podcast with Moshe Radman. There the Rabbi noted that religious people run the state under the assumption that it is the foundation of God’s throne in the world, and the like, and that they sometimes conduct themselves in a non-rational way.
(I agree with the distinction between Religious Zionists and Haredim in the context of thinking in terms of the masses and the long term.)
But how does this way of thinking, with broad statements like “the foundation of God’s throne,” etc., actually manifest itself? In what practical decisions do we see that they are operating under that assumption rather than out of rational considerations?
Answer
On the contrary, what I said there was that this has almost no implications, and the considerations, even of those who are called messianic, are mainly practical. It does have implications such as religious coercion, the Chief Rabbinate, the desire to settle in all parts of the Land of Israel, and so on.
