Question

Hello Rabbi,

I met with you last week and we corresponded by email, and there was one topic I didnt get a chance to discuss with you that Id be glad to hear your position on.
I happened to watch a National Geographic series about religions starring Morgan Freeman. In the series he interviews religious figures and scientists. In one of the episodes he interviews a doctor from the United States who claims that in certain cases of patients who were in a near-death state, some patients reported particular experiences even though they had no brain activity at all. The apparent implication of this finding is that there is consciousness (a soul) that does not depend on physical existence. Ive read a bit about the topic, and even though it is supposedly a factual matter, I see that opinions about it are divided, with each side pulling in its own direction. So in order to analyze the results of experiments of this kind and their implications, I need someone with intellectual integrity.
I wanted to know whether youve ever dealt with this topic, and whether in your opinion there is any real news there.

In addition, I saw on your site that you address the questions of so many people, and I wanted to praise you for the great help you give through your answers.
Unfortunately, when it comes to dealing with the difficult questions placed before us, it seems as though you are alone in the campaign in terms of the integrity, courage, knowledge, and analysis you bring to these issues.
