Should humanity hope that everyone will be straight?

In a column about silencing discussion on LGBT issues, Kalman Liebskind writes:
True, there are also completely straight couples who run into difficulty bringing a child into the world, and make use of the services of a surrogate or the adoption authorities, but let us set them aside for a moment, because they—unlike LGBT people—admit and declare that they have a problem. And from that point, since this is indeed possible, but not the most natural thing in the world, there is one central question that should be asked of members of the gay community, a question whose answer will determine what kind of discussion we are having: it is completely clear why, in the current state of affairs, given that these are your inclinations, you seek rights, recognition, and equality. But are you willing to pray together that from now on no more children will be born with a different sexual orientation? If the answer to this question is no, that means we are not dealing with a discussion about the rights of people who seek equal solutions for every person, whatever their sexual orientation may be, but with a much broader struggle. A struggle over values. A struggle over the character and future of the family.
By the way, my answer to this question is that in a properly ordered world, we should hope that everyone would be straight, because only that way could the world continue to exist, while at the same time recognizing that this is not the reality, and accommodating as much as possible everyone who is not like that.
- Is it really as he says, that humanity should—that is, it would be utilitarianly beneficial, or morally proper—hope (assuming it could have an effect) that everyone would be straight?
- Is it only that way that the world could continue to exist?
Answer
I didn’t understand the claim.
