Hello Rabbi!
I watched your lecture series on YouTube about mysticism. At the same time, I happened to read Yeshayahu Leibowitz’s article, "Psychology — A Science?"
I noticed a similarity between your definition of the relationship between mysticism and science, and the relationship Leibowitz defines between psychology and science. I will bring a partial quotation:
"A scientific question—as distinct from many weighty and highly meaningful questions that are not scientific—can be asked only about something that belongs to the public domain of examination, testing, and cognition; in other words, only about something to which the research approach is equally open to every person with sufficient intelligence, as distinct from something that cannot be revealed and known except to its owner or to a select few, such as things grasped through intuitive or mystical awareness; in a third formulation—only about things whose investigators can be in communication with one another on the basis of equal possibilities of cognition."
Does the Rabbi also see the similarity, and can one in fact say that in this sense psychology is closer to mysticism and philosophy?
