Q&A: Libation Wine
Libation Wine
Question
Is there room to be lenient regarding libation wine nowadays, since in practice there really is no one today who pours wine as a libation for idol worship? The concern of "because of their daughters" is in fact more relevant today than in the past, but not necessarily in the context of lifting a bottle of wine.
And is there room to be lenient in a workplace, when the non-Jew will be embarrassed by the fact that you do not drink the wine he touched?
And what is your view regarding a Jew who does not observe Torah and commandments?
Answer
If there is no one who pours libations, then there is no libation wine either. You probably mean ordinary wine of non-Jews, which is a rabbinic decree. Here we have entered the category of a decree whose reason has lapsed, and straightforwardly it remains in force until another religious court comes and repeals it.
