Q&A: Waiting for the Messiah
Waiting for the Messiah
Question
Where is the source in Maimonides that someone who does not await the coming of the Messiah denies the fundamental principles?
2. Things are very good for me as they are, and I do not see any benefit in his coming, so how am I supposed to await him?
Answer
Are sources for this lacking? For example, “May the Merciful One forgive Rabbi Hillel” in tractate Sanhedrin.
The fact that things are good for you as they are and you do not see any benefit in his coming does not mean that when he arrives you will not understand that you were mistaken. The claim is that when he comes, you will understand why this is essentially different.
Discussion on Answer
It is written in the Talmud that there is. Personally, I am not sure what exactly that means.
That there is an obligation to learn and study what is missing without the Messiah.
I do not see any source for such an obligation. Nor is there any way to learn it. Who exactly has any information about this?
According to the Rabbi, is there an obligation to await the Messiah?
