Q&A: Kippah
Kippah
Question
I once saw that according to Jewish law, someone who mistakenly recited a blessing inside a building without a kippah does not need to repeat the blessing, because there is an opinion that the ceiling counts like head covering. That seems to imply that this is not acceptable from the outset. Does a kippah actually invalidate a blessing altogether, including outdoors? And if so, would he have to repeat the blessing outdoors?
Answer
One does not repeat it. See an overview here: https://ask.hidabroot.org/shut/%D7%90%D7%93%D7%9D-%D7%A9%D7%91%D7%99%D7%A8%D7%9A-%D7%91%D7%98%D7%A2%D7%95%D7%AA-%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%9B%D7%AA-%D7%94%D7%9E%D7%96%D7%95%D7%9F-%D7%9C%D7%9C%D7%90-%D7%9B%D7%99%D7%A4%D7%94-%D7%94%D7%90%D7%9D/
Is there really any assumption that a kippah invalidates the blessing? Isn't it just that it's forbidden to say God's name bareheaded, independently of whether that affects the validity of the blessing?
