Darwinian force as a fair lottery

שו"תDarwinian force as a fair lottery
שאל לפני שנה 1

I am currently listening to a series on Doubting Statistics, where a question was raised about a ship that left Liverpool and sank, and there were not enough lifeboats, so one of the passengers pushed people into the water. The assumption is that a lottery should be held, since one person has no more right than another to a place in the lifeboat. The rabbi raised a question about why the strongest person is not considered the winner of the fair genetic lottery and therefore his lifeboat. The rabbi replied that there is no reason to give the strongest more rights, since whoever determined that it was a lottery, then one can demand a lottery in which the weaker person is the winner.
And in my opinion, the Rabbi did not go to the end of the questioner's mind, and I will explain this with an example: For the sake of this matter, if there were a country that dealt with such a question and determined that the fair lottery is the height of a person (the tallest will be saved), it is clear that the right to salvation goes to the tallest of them. This Darwinian argument claims that the universe itself determined the genetic lottery, that the stronger has a greater right to live since he won the lottery, and proof that the genetic lottery is valid is created by other lotteries, because as the Rabbi said, no matter what the weak say, the strong will determine who will fall into the water, this only proves that nature gave power to those who won (in a fair lottery) genetic power.

I addressed this case in detail in column 538. Read there, and if you have a difficulty that wasn't answered, post it as a talkback there.
