existentialism

שו"תexistentialism
שאל לפני 2 שנים

You once wrote that existentialism is not a philosophical doctrine.
Isn't the question of the meaning of life, which is part of the definition of this Torah [as can be seen on Wikipedia] a philosophical question?
It tries to ascertain objective truth [and does not deal only with the person's feelings]. Is there a meaning to our lives, and if so, what is it?
It's natural that you ignored this in your column [you just wrote that if there is some philosophical question that the existentialist writer deals with, it is only incidentally, and it is truly a philosophical question, but it is not part of the main point of this thought. But as far as I understand, the question about the meaning of life is indeed part of the main point of this gloss]

The question of whether there is meaning can be philosophical (and that too depends on intention. See column 159). The question of what meaning is is interpreted in two ways: philosophical and existentialist (see the same column).
