May Hanukkah (Shabbat 21:)

It's amazing to me that it took the Sages hundreds of years to put the question on the table! What is Chanukah?!
That is, Chanukah candles were lit for hundreds of years (this is already mentioned in the Mishnah) and no one asked questions, suddenly one day the Amoraim studied the laws of Shabbat and its lights and remembered that men also light candles in what is called Chanukah and asked themselves what the hell is this thing called Chanukah?! And they brought some mimra that explains it. That's it, we've closed the corner.
We did not find similar questions regarding other holidays, not even regarding Purim, which had its own tractate dedicated to it.
A bit disturbing, isn't it?

Not really disturbing. Why do you think the Amoraim were the first to ask this? This may be the first time the question has been written down. The same goes for quite a few things in the Talmud. But there is no need for this either. Simply put, this is not a problem but a didactic presentation of the answer. Instead of explaining directly what Chanukah is, they present a question and an answer. Like "What has changed?" Was your child the first to ask the question at Seder night? Is this even a question that awaits an answer?
