Regarding the witchcraft fence and its existence in finding
Hello Rabbi.
I understand from the raids that the prohibition of witchcraft is the prohibition of doing something that is not in the way of nature and its laws. There may be two possibilities, either such acts can be performed or they cannot. If such acts can be performed, then they are part of nature. In other words, it will turn out (to our surprise) that one of the laws of nature is that if a person stands at a certain time and whispers a certain spell and does a certain act, then a certain action occurs. It seems unlikely that the difference between witchcraft and a mere act is the degree of popularity of some natural law. So what does witchcraft mean in this case?
A second possibility is that it is not possible to perform a spell. If so, every act of sorcery is "concealment" unless the sorcerer himself does not know that what he is doing is concealment. According to this possibility, how should we interpret the words of the Maimonides, who is commonly said (rightly?) to have consecrated in this way, "The sorcerer is liable to stoning. And he who has performed a spell, but he who consecrates the eyes, and he who sees that he has done it and has not done it, suffers the plague of rebellion" (Hilkot 7:14-15)?
And in what possibility does the rabbi believe?
