The attitude of the Haredi public towards Rabbi Moshe Feinstein

שו"תThe attitude of the Haredi public towards Rabbi Moshe Feinstein
שאל לפני 7 חודשים

Hello Rabbi, I remember we once corresponded about the matter, and you told me that there were Haredi rabbis who were great TAHs, but the Haredi community itself, at least the Bnei Baraki, didn't really make a big deal out of them, and that the National Religious community tends to exaggerate their ranking in the Haredi world.
You wrote this to me about Rabbi Shlomo Fischer, and even about Rabbi Auerbach.

(Regarding Tzitz Eliezer, for example, you told me that you yourself didn't really know him from your time as a Bnei Brakite, and the same goes for Rabbi Weinberg – the "Remnants of Fire")

So I wanted to ask what about Rabbi Moshe Feinstein?

Is he considered a Bani Baraki within the ultra-Orthodox community? Or does he also receive less status there than it seems?

I recently read that in the 1960s, the ultra-Orthodox public in the US condemned him for his ruling on artificial insemination, and that the "zealots" there treated him with terrible contempt, and that there were hardly any other parties who lifted a finger on his behalf in the entire controversy.

This prompted me to ask how he is treated in the mainstream Haredi public – that of Bnei Brak, of the readers of "Yated Ne’eman".

Wishing you a good week.

emir

I think he was accepted. That doesn't mean they accepted all of his rulings, of course. Beyond that, the fact that there are zealots fighting against someone doesn't prove anything. There is no guardian for zealots. Zealots also fought against Rabbi Elyashiv, Rabbi Steinman, and others.
