The sorrow of those who choose
A question about your opinion on free choice. (1) I think I understood your point that a creature without choice, even if it has consciousness, is likened to a robot in your eyes. (2) You are not sure that animals such as dogs possess free choice (and seem inclined to think that they do not). (3) You do attach importance to the suffering of animals and also describe feelings of affection towards pets. How does that work out?

Affectionate feelings are a psychological matter and not a value. But if there is a creature that suffers and is in pain, there is an obligation not to cause it suffering. It has no rights, but we have duties. The computer is not only free of choice, but it also does not feel pain.
