Regarding not giving favor to a Gentile (let's assume it's only about idolaters). Am I not allowed to praise, for example, Messi because he is a believing Christian? What about great philosophers, artists, and a host of people from all over the world who worshipped idols but were also talented, beautiful, or anything else of great quality?

Beyond what he writes, it seems to me that today the situation is different and there is no place for this prohibition (unless one praises the Jewish state itself or its instruments). Both because there is no fear that it will be followed, and also because that is the manners of the world today, and also because the Gentiles of today have a different law (as is well known).
